Ross Portrays the Life and Thought of Hannah Whiteall Smith

GREENVILLE, Ill. - Actress Jayne Ross, of Seattle, Wash., will speak and act at Greenville College in LaDue Auditorium on Monday, November 18 at 7 p.m. The presentation is free and open to the public. She will address the campus community earlier in the day at the college's chapel service beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Ross plans to share her life story which includes many years as a human resource vice president at CBS in New York City. Although raised in a Christian home, Ross fell prey to alcoholism. After her life was transformed by the power of God, she became an evangelist among her colleagues and friends in inner New York City.

Ross eventually retired and became an actress. Over time, she has researched, written of, and acted the life and thought of Hannah Whiteall Smith.

Smith wrote the 1875 devotional classic, "The Secret to a Happy Christian Life." As Ross portrays Smith, she shows how closely her life and thought parallel our concerns and struggles of today.

"Jayne transformed into Hannah in a coffee shop for me one day and I was overwhelmed by her talent and insight into her character," said Karen Winslow, director of Jewish and Christian studies at Greenville College.
