Social Sciences Requirement Print E-mail

In the February 23 meeting of the Social Science Division:

Stephens moved and Boyd seconded that all students, as a prerequisite to graduation, be required to complete both a Psychology and a Sociology course. Under the current, newly revised requirements, students must complete either a Psychology or a Sociology course. Considerable discussion followed. Such a requirement may necessitate additional staffing in Psychology. Motion passed.

At the March 17 meeting of the General Education Council:

Boyd moved and Martin seconded that we revise the proposed general education "Distributed Requirements" so that both a course in Psychology and a course in Sociology be required of all students, with the provision that two or more courses from each department be available to fulfill this requirement. This would mean that Psychology would have to expand the courses that it considers appropriate for general education students. The AAC affairs committee must also consider the implications for staffing. The motion passed unanimously.
