If you've never been to college before, it can be hard to know what
you should bring. To make your move-in a little easier we've put
together a checklist of things you'll probably need in regards to
technology, and things you can do to prepare for college life.
DON'T FORGET...
- Your
computer (Not participating in Greenville College's Laptop
Program? Be sure to view our "Buying a Computer" section for minimum specs on campus
computers).
- Power strip/ Surge protector.
- Software
installation disks, including Windows, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Office, as well as license
codes in case you must reinstall your computer system.
- Telephone (Cordless phones must be 900MHz or 5.8GHz. No 2.4GHz phones will be allowed on campus due to interference they cause with the wireless network.)
- Network
login. Logins are sent out by letter before fall semester or can
be picked up during New Student Orientation at the Welcome Tent.
If your first semester is Interterm or Spring, please stop by the Help
Desk on the Greenville Square upon arrival to pick up your network login and
other important information.
- Make sure your antivirus software
is up to date and run a virus scan of your system. Antivirus
software is freely available to all students, but ensuring your
computer is virus-free before coming to campus will help you avoid
problems in connecting to our network.
- Run a spyware check
of your computer. Many students experience problems with spyware
on their computers which can cause problems when trying to connect to
our campus network. We highly advise you to update your anti-spyware
software and run a scan on your computer. If you do not have
spyware protection software installed on your system, we recommend Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware which are both freely available.
