Greenville College Library to host Let’s Talk About It: Jewish Literature
reading and discussion series
{Greenville, Ill.} – The Ruby E. Dare Library of Greenville College will host a free five-part reading and discussion series called “Let’s Talk About It: Jewish Literature – Identity and Imagination.” The series explores Jewish literature and culture through scholar-led discussions of contemporary and classic books on a common theme. The library’s series will explore the theme “Between Two Worlds: Stories of Estrangement and Homecoming.” The library is one of over 150 libraries nationwide receiving grants to host the series developed by Nextbook and the American Library Association (ALA).
The first program will explore Lost in Translation by Eva Hoffman and will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 7 pm. All programs will be held in Studio A at Ruby E. Dare Library, Greenville College, corner of Elm and Oak Streets. For details or to register, contact Jane Hopkins (618-664-6600)

“We are delighted to have been chosen to host this unique series that will allow patrons a chance to discuss themes in Jewish literature with fellow community members and with the help of a well-qualified scholar,” said Jane Hopkins, Director of the Ruby E. Dare Library and Discussion Program Director.
Additional books will be discussed during the Fall Semester in Studio A at the library on Wednesdays at 7 pm. These books are Mr. Sammler’s Planet (Oct.11), Out of Egypt (Nov. 1), The Centaur in the Garden (Nov. 15), and Kaaterskill Falls (Nov. 29, 8 pm). Dr. Christina Smerick, Shapiro Chair of Jewish-Christian Studies and Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Greenville College, will lead a discussion of the book at each session. Dr. Smerick received her degree in Philosophy from DePaul University, Chicago, in 2003 and joined the Greenville College faculty in August 2005.
Copies of the books for the Discussion Series are available for borrowing from the Ruby E. Dare Library at Greenville College, or for purchase at the Greenville Christian Bookstore, 500 Ganton Circle in Greenville. Bond County adult residents may sign up for free Guest cards at the Library’s Circulation Desk.
The Ruby E. Dare Library is open Monday-Thursday from 7:30 am to 11:45 pm, Fridays from 7:30 am to 5 pm, Saturdays from 9:30 am to 4 pm, and Sundays from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Other Library information is available at the Library’s web site: http://www.greenville.edu/campus_services/library/
